Lilydale Heights College commenced its 1:1 computer program in 2010. Through the use of personal student devices over many years, we have gained valuable experience and adopted technologies to deliver transformative learning experiences as part of our Digital Devices Program.
To help families make a reliable choice, the College provides an online portal where you can buy a school‑recommended device.
For a quick guide to minimum device requirements, supported device types, and key BYOD details, see the BYOD Information and Quick Specification Reference.

Transformative Learning Experiences
The ultimate goal of the program is to provide all students with universal access to personal devices and school-based specialist technologies. The program enables students to learn anytime and anywhere, ensuring they have access to the right tools. At the same time, it maintains a practical, “real-world” approach to technology use, preparing students for modern careers.
Adaptable and Fit for the Learning Purpose
- Students use personal laptop devices for general learning activities.
- The College provides access to high-performance computers for specialist learning areas such as Art, Media and Music.
- Senior students may also use approved companion tablets to enhance productivity and creativity. For example, they might use a tablet for web browsing and reading while typing and editing files on their laptops.
Practical and Focused on Careers
- Students use their personal computers with the same Microsoft productivity software and technologies that are standard in most workplaces.
- For Art, Media and Music, students access Apple iMac computers with industry-level tools such as Logic Pro X and Adobe Creative Suite—software commonly used in creative industries.
Flexible and Affordable for Families
- We recommend a range of competitively priced laptops specifically suited for education.
- Families may also supply their own BYO personal or companion device, provided it meets the College’s administrative and technical requirements.
- Students can access technical support at the HelpDesk, with additional assistance for warranty and insurance claims on College-loaned or College-recommended devices.
Enrolling in the Digital Devices Program
Students wishing to participate in the Digital Devices Program need to complete a few simple steps.
Step 1 – Discover: Learn about the program
Step 2 – Choose: Select the right device
Step 3 – Connect: Set up and connect your device to the College
Students can use shared school computers, the internet, and email, and may also bring their own devices, as long as they follow the school’s digital policies and the terms and conditions of the Digital Devices Program. Families should read these documents carefully and contact the College if they have any questions before choosing or setting up a device.
The College provides access to internet, email, printing, shared Windows/Mac desktop computers and other ICT services. However, the use of eBooks and other digital learning resources requires one‑to‑one access to a personal student computer, which must be functional and available every day. We expect every student to have a BYOD device that meets school requirements. You have two options for sourcing this device.
Option 1. School‑Recommended BYOD (Strongly Preferred)
This is the default option for most families. Please choose this unless you meet the criteria for Option 2.
The College provides an online portal where you can buy a school‑recommended device and optional items, either outright or with finance.
The portal offers a small range of recommended devices. We provide basic technical support to connect your device to the school IT systems and help with onsite warranty claims and repairs. In many cases, this support can significantly reduce the time your child is without their device if a fault or damage occurs. Recommended devices may change over time based on availability.
Option 2 – BYOD of your choice (only if Option 1 is not suitable)
Choose this option only if you already have, or must buy, a different device and can ensure it meets all school requirements.
BYOD Information and Quick Specification Reference
This option is for families who already have a suitable device, or who believe they can get a computer that better fits their child’s learning needs or family circumstances. We will provide basic technical support to connect your device to the school systems, but you are responsible for all warranty claims and repairs.
Student Loan Computers
In some circumstances, the College may provide a daily loan laptop computer or short-term loan laptop computer for learning support when a student personal device is not available.
Once you have chosen a suitable device, the final step is to connect it to the College systems.
Go to the College BYOD Configuration Portal and follow the instructions to enrol your device from home, in the library, or at the HelpDesk.
- BYOD Enrolment for Windows-based devices
- School OneDrive Configuration for Windows-based devices
- BYOD Enrolment for Macbooks
- BYOD Enrolment for iPads
If you experience issues connecting to the school network or operating your device at school, please visit the HelpDesk at recess or lunchtime for assistance.
