All students belong to one of our four houses: Olinda, Castella, Melba, and Yarra. Within our House structure, students develop a sense of belonging, connecting to other students and staff via competitions and positive recognition for their demonstration of our College values. This structure allows Lilydale Heights College to support every individual student and assist them in their journey throughout their secondary schooling life and beyond.
OLINDA (Blue) – derived from the Olinda Creek from where the future site of the Lilydale township was first seen.
CASTELLA (Yellow) – named after the family De Castella who were one of the first to purchase property in the area and establish the Lilydale area.
MELBA (Green) – named after Dame Nellie Melba, the famous opera singer who was born in the area, lived her later years in Coldstream, and is buried in the cemetery across from the school.
YARRA (Red) – named after the Indigenous inhabitants of the Lilydale area, the Yarra Yarra Tribe. Due to their connection to the land around the Birrarung (Yarra River) and the river itself, the Wurundjeri people are sometimes historically referred to as the Yarra Yarra Tribe.
