Exploring Mt Buller Resort and Surrounding Areas

by Clare Rayner

Year 11 OES Students – Exploring Mt Buller Resort and surrounding areas

The students embraced their non-stop 25-hour camp experience, they worked hard throughout the experience; listening and following instructions and creating an extremely supportive, enthusiastic atmosphere.

I really wanted the students to demonstrate their level of camp skills and awareness to me (rather than me just being the supervising adult) - they flourished! Straight away they organised their cooking groups and managed their cooking and cleaning up totally independently, with minimal impact on their environment. They also enjoyed the challenge of setting up their tents/camp in the dark - again I was very impressed; their work was full of resilience, support and respect!

Our investigation around Mt Buller was supported by fantastic, sunny weather. The students we able to see the amazing views around us, over the mountain tops of the high country and beyond. We were able to enjoy the remaining snowy patches and analyse the development occurring around the village, considering recreational opportunities as well as the commercial ones. The students adopted some careful, thoughtful viewpoints about their impacts on the environments and possible advantages/disadvantages of each activity.

Well done to all, I look forward to our upcoming rafting camp!
